Dried Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon)*: Pleasantly tart on the palate, cranberries provide not only a flavour-boost to our Winter Warmer Tea, but nutrients as well! Cranberry is high in antioxidants, and helps to support the immune system, enhance digestion, regulate blood cholesterol, and even provides protective benefits to the stomach and mucous membranes.
Star Anise (Illicium verum)*: Star anise has a sweet, subtle licorice-like flavour and has been used in both TCM and folk medicine as a means of relieving respiratory and digestive ailments. Star anise can also help to keep blood sugar stable, support heart health, kill off harmful bacteria and fungus, and protect the body from cold & flu.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)*: The spicy/sweet bark of the cinnamomum tree has been long revered for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It helps to warm the body from the inside out by increasing blood flow, while supporting the respiratory, nervous, circulatory, urinary, and reproductive systems. At Flourish Apothecary, we utilize only true (ceylon) cinnamon, instead of the more commonly-used cassia variety, as it contains only a trace amount of coumarins (a compound which can be toxic to the liver when consumed frequently).
Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)*: Ginger adds a deeply warming element to this tea blend by improving circulation and blood flow. It provides a pleasant hint of spice while reducing blood pressure, fighting inflammation, boosting the immune system, and easing digestive upset.
Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum)*: Native to eastern Indonesia, clove spice comes from the aromatic flower buds of the Syzygium aromaticum tree. It has a classic, comforting flavour reminiscent of warm apple pie, cider, and holiday baking, and provides anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties when consumed.
Elderberries (Sambucus nigra)*: Elderberries are high in antioxidants, dietary fiber, and vitamin C. They have a deep, rich berry taste, and are excellent immune-boosters which work to both ease and prevent cold and flu symptoms. The majority of our elderberries are organically-grown here on southern Vancouver Island, but depending on Mother Nature's yearly offerings, we sometimes supplement our stock from certified organic farms in Europe (where the berries are native to).
Dried Apple (Malus pumila)*: Apples not only taste delicious, but they also contain antioxidants, and help to lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol, improve heart health and vision, and improve the immune system. We utilize locally-grown, certified organic apples in this warming tea blend to bring you a well-rounded, sustainable, and delicious cup of tea.
Orange Peel (Citrus sinensis)*: Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, the peel of organic oranges has been said to contain more health benefits than the fruit itself! In addition to adding a slight citrusy flavour to this warming tea blend, orange peel can help to improve digestion, regulate blood sugar, and enhance available collagen in the body to combat signs of aging.
