White Peony Root (Paeonia lactiflora)*: White peony root has a long history of use in both TCM and Siberian/Tibetan herbal folk medicine as a remedy for mood disorders, bodily pain and inflammation, and to help improve blood flow, reducing clotting and stagnation. It helps to moderate hormones and provides antioxidants, which make it the perfect plant ally to round out our Cramp-Ease Tea blend.
Vitex (Vitex agnus-castus)*: One of the best go-to remedies for all things menstrual-related, vitex (also known as chastetree) is a tiny, brownish/purple berry which helps to bring balance to the hormones, relieving PMS and other menstrual-cycle woes. Vitex can help regulate the menstrual cycle, reduce breast tenderness and menstrual cramps, balance mood swings, and help ease the transition into menopause.
Nettle Leaf (Urtica dioica)*: Nettle is commonly known as a pesky stinging plant that delivers a plethora of essential vitamins and minerals when consumed (don't worry, it loses its ability to 'sting' when dried)! It contains a healthy dose of nonheme iron along with vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, as well as antioxidants to help protect your body from inflammation while replenishing precious nutrients that inevitably get lost during the menstrual cycle.
Dandelion Leaf (Taraxacum officinale)*: Antioxidant-rich dandelion is widely used for its detoxifying properties, helping it to cleanse the liver, which in turn rids the body of excess estrogen that may contribute to PMS. Dandelion leaf also helps to boost the immune system, balance blood pressure and cholesterol, support healthy digestion, and nourish the kidneys.
Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)*: Ginger root adds a zippy flavour component to this tea blend, while providing antiseptic properties, protective antioxidants, and soothing anti-inflammatory compounds to relieve cramps and digestive issues associated with PMS.
Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum)*: Commonly known as 'holy basil', this delicious herb knows how to keep your body in balance, and can give you a boost of stamina while keeping you calm and grounded. It contains properties which help to detoxify the body and purify the blood. Because of its natural analgesic properties, drinking this herb can result in a much more enjoyable moon time, with reduced cramping and discomfort.
Red Clover Blossoms (Trifolium pratense)*†: These naturally sweet, beautiful flowers of the red clover plant are high in calcium, chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, thiamine, and vitamin C. They provide a healthy dose of these vital nutrients as well as phytoestrogens, which help to balance hormones. Red clover is known as an alterative, which means it helps bring the body into balance and alter the ways in which it reacts and adapts to stress. We source our red clover blossoms from certified organic local farms, and when possible, we pluck them fresh from the wilds of southern Vancouver Island.
